February
Newsletter 28
days and 14 winners!!! Not a bad month,
1 more winner than in February last year with some young
talent emerging
like HOUBLON DES OBEAUX who could be a good thing for the Triumph
hurdle and AL FEROF who will also be among the favorite at
Cheltenham. CHELTENIAN justify his expensive purchase of 210
000£ when winning a good bumper in style. He also
may go to the festival
carrying the honor of being favorite. CRYSTIFOU a son of young successful Sire LE FOU won on the flat
a handicap at Angers by 8
lengths
in a very impressive style and could be a serious horse when going back
over
hurdles where he was a very easy winner last autumn.
In the sales ring we top the sales with 15 purchases at The
Arqana mixed
sales at Saint Cloud. We bought horses for a total
of 13
different clients including Danish, English,
Irish, and Norwegian and also a lovely horse LANDOLINO to go racing in Jersey. |

| We
topped the Arqana mixed sale: Monday, February 14th
We was again very active at the Arqana Sales when purchasing a total of 15 lots, one more than he bought at this sale in 2010, the top price of which was for Lot 115 Katioucha (Mansonnien) at €35,000 on behalf of Haras du Berlais. “I was attracted to her for her pedigree,” he explained. “Her pedigree is very strong on her dam’s side and most importantly she is a mare with black type.” Katioucha was placed third on her first start over hurdles in a Listed race at Auteuil and went on to finish third on two more occasions before being successful on her last start as a four-year-old. She produced a colt by Balingarry in 2009 and a filly by Martaline last year, and was presented not in foal after a covering by Astarabad in 2010.
The 2011 February Mixed Sale, which for the second year running was held in Saint-Cloud due to the ongoing refurbishment works at Deauville, grossed €980,500 for 166 horses sold. That is an average price of €5,695 for a clearance rate of 68.44%, up 10 points from the previous year |

FEROF , trained by Paul Nicholls won the Bet totepool On 0800 221 221 Novices' Hurdle at Newbury Saturday, February 12th
Following the succes of CHELTENIAN yesterday at Kemton another succesfull of our yearling purchases was under the sunlight saturday when AL FEROF won in a canter a useful novice hurdle at Newbury. The son of DOM ALCO will probably also going straight to Cheltenham. We purchased them both at the Arqana Yearling Sales. |
| A
good day at Sandown Saturday, February 5th
RUTHENOISE,
trained by Nicky
Henderson, finished 2nd
behind the champion BINOCULAR
in the Totesport 0800 221 221 Contenders Hurdle Listed BINOCULAR took the Contenders Hurdle for the second season running, but much like last year was solid rather than spectacular, as the reigning champion hurdler beat stablemate Ruthenoise. The ROBIN DES CHAMPS mare was allowed to make the running and quickly went several lengths clear, with Tony McCoy content to sit at the rear of the field on Binocular. However, between the last two flights, McCoy's m0unt briefly looked in trouble, as the 1-10 shot failed to respond immediately when asked to pass Ruthenoise. But a mistake at the last stopped the mare's momentumand left Binocular in front, and McCoy pushed his mount out to score by a length and three-quarters We purchased her at the 2007
Arqana Autumn Sales for 14 000€
